Tap shows a sequence of two spontaneous gestures. In the first burst of nervous energy, a hand reaches over to pick up a pencil and begins tapping it against the table. When the pencil marks on the table by accident, the hand automatically turns the pencil over to erase the mark without thinking. In the second, the hand can't stay still and begins to drum out an increasingly loud rhythm. This work demonstrates how nervous habits can be magnified to extreme proportions. The tension and eventual release reveal behavioral "flaws" of the subject, but make you wonder about your own.
